Description
During this bachelor’s programme, students acquire fundamental knowledge and a critical understanding of the theories, methods and research of the science of history and related subjects. Moreover, they are prepared for more advanced higher education programmes (master’s programme) as well as for their future profession. The master’s programme enables students to further develop their individual interests, subject specialisation and professional profile. Students can focus even more on their individual profile than was possible in the bachelor’s programme. They are taught to undertake academic work independently and also develop their own research questions. They are prepared for more advanced higher education programmes (doctoral studies) as well as for their future profession since students acquire not only subject-specific knowledge but also general skills in research, analysis and presentation that are important in a range of occupational fields.
Programme Structure
The standard period of study of the bachelor’s programme in history is seven trimesters. The programme includes compulsory and optional modules and a dissertation. Students who have not yet satisfied all of the academic requirements of the bachelor’s programme can be admitted to the master’s programme on a provisional basis. Students who have obtained 180 credit points with a grade of 3.0 or better by the end of the eighth trimester can progress to the master’s programme. Students who do not meet these requirements are given until the end of the ninth trimester to obtain the credits needed to successfully complete their bachelor’s degree.
The master’s programme comprises five trimesters (eighth to twelfth trimester) and a master’s thesis at the end of the programme. For the master’s programme in history, students expand and deepen the fundamental knowledge and skills they have acquired in the bachelor’s programme.
