The research project “More Democracy through Democratic Innovations? The Change of Political Equality through New Forms of Participation” is located at the interface between democracy, discourse and legitimation research. The project asks about the consequences of democratic innovations for the acceptance and stability of representative democratic institutions, procedures and guiding principles at the state and municipal level. The study focuses on the impact of new democratic participatory processes, i.e. direct and deliberative citizen participation, the discursive construction of the ideal of political equality and the generation of legitimate political decisions.
The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Chair of Comparative Government (Prof. Dr. Florian Grotz) at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg.
