Lebenslauf
Dr. Deniz Kocak ist Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (Postdoc) an der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität / Universität der Bundeswehr (HSU/UniBwH), Mitglied des interdisziplinären Forschungsschwerpunkts Maritime Sicherheit (iFMS) sowie Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am German Institute for Defence and Security Studies (GIDS) in Hamburg.
Zuvor arbeitete er als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Bereich der Krisenprävention- und Koordination sowie der Risikokommunikation am Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR), als Lehrbeauftragter an der Freien Universität Berlin, als Gastwissenschaftler an der School of Social Sciences (SoSS)-Singapore Management University (SMU) sowie als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich 700 „Governance in Räumen begrenzter Staatlichkeit“, Freie Universität Berlin.
Darüber hinaus ist Herr Dr. Kocak in der Politikberatung zu Themen der Sicherheitsgovernance tätig, unter anderem für das United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) und die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Von 2015 bis 2020 war er Wissenschaftlicher Beirat für das EU-geförderte Horizon 2020 Projekt „Community Based Policing and Post-Conflict Police Reform“ (ICT4COP) tätig. Seit 2017 ist er Mitglied des United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) –Regional Service for Africa (RSCA) Governance and Peacebuilding Experts Roster und seit 2021 ist er Mitglied des Security Sector Reform (SSR) Advisory Network to the United Nations. Seit 2022 ist er Mitglied des Steering Committees der European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) -Standing Group Political Violence.
Er studierte an der Universität Potsdam und der Humboldt-Universität Berlin Politikwissenschaft und Neuere/Neueste Geschichte, und promovierte an der Freien Universität Berlin, Otto-Suhr-Institut, in Politikwissenschaft.
