Welcome to the Professorship for Machine Elements and Computer Aided Product Design
Professor Dr.-Ing. Frank Mantwill
Artificial intelligence (AI) stimulates many fantasies about how our future can change. For example, disruptive innovations of processes, products or services are conceivable. Until these fantasies become reality, extensive research is required.
The MRP conducts research in the field of early product influencing. Assistive or autonomous systems should, on the one hand, rationalize in the early phase of product development, and on the other hand be able to support in coping with tasks that will become more complex in the future. Physical or statistical models, which are systematically researched, further developed and implemented in real applications, form the basis here. These newly emerging applications will have effects on the organization and the people, which is why we always pursue the MTO approach in our research projects. Especially in the case of AI-based applications, there is still a great need for research in this area. The applications come primarily from automotive manufacturers and their suppliers. But we are also pursuing similar goals in prosthetics for medical technology.
We prefer to conduct research in industry-sponsored projects. Each research project pursues a win-win situation for the doctoral student and the project partner. Students qualify through collaboration in the sense of learning research. From our experience, this has multiple benefits for all participants. On our website you can get your own impression of the offers we can make to you as a company, as a student or as a potential doctoral candidate.
