Prof. Liubomyr Poberezhnyi
Prof. Liubomyr Poberezhnyi is an Ukrainian scientist, former professor at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas; head of the Laboratory of Corrosion-Mechanical Degradation of Materials and Structures and studied various problems of corrosion of oil and gas pipelines and oil production equipment. He performed assessment and management of technogenic and environmental risks in the oil and gas industry, estimates the corrosion-mechanical degradation level of structures, and forecasts its remaining useful life.
In 2022 he joined Prof. Kessler’s group at HSU. Currently, he studies the corrosion of wind power facility supports, modeling electrochemical interactions between corrosion defects, and determining their influence on the corrosion rate.
Prof. Poberezhyi studied Chemistry at the Lviv National University, Lviv, Ukraine. Obtained Ph.D. in Oil and gas pipeline transport in 2004, Doctor of Science in Oil and gas pipeline transport in 2008, Full Professor in Chemistry in 2010. Before starting his work at Helmut Schmidt University, he worked for over 20 years in scientific and teaching positions at the university.
