Europe in the Classroom – Panel Discussion and Poster Exhibition

Prof. Simona Szakács-Behling will participate in the event Europe in the Classroom, which examines the representation of Europe in school textbooks before and after reunification. The focus will be on how historical and political education has been conveyed in different societal contexts.

Call for Papers – Special Section of the Comparative Education Review (CER)
Internationalisation and Transnationalisation of ‘Roma Education’
We are pleased to share the Call for Papers for a special section of the Comparative Education Review (CER), guest-edited by Dr. Christian Brüggemann (Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit und Pädagogik, Berlin) and Dr. Simona Szakács-Behling (Helmut-Schmidt-University, Hamburg).
This special issue seeks contributions that critically examine the international and transnational dimensions of Roma education, including policy transfers, cross-border influences, and the role of international organisations, states, and grassroots activism in shaping educational initiatives. Scholars at all career stages, including graduate students, are encouraged to submit.

Annual On_Education Meeting
We were thrilled to host the annual meeting of “On_Education. Journal for Research and Debate” at Helmut Schmidt University (HSU) in Hamburg on June 6th and 7th, 2024. The hybrid event brought together the journal’s team, both in person and online, for some fantastic discussions and planning sessions.

The meeting was a great success, with lively participation from everyone, leading to productive and exciting outcomes.

In recent coverage by TAZ, Acting Professor Dr. Simona Szakács-Behling is interviewed about German-speaking schools in Romania. The article highlights how primarily Romanian children benefit from German language education, hoping for better future opportunities. Despite challenges such as a shortage of teachers and infrastructural bottlenecks, the piece emphasizes the importance of the German language as an educational investment.
