Benjamin David Wessel

Benjamin D. Wessel combines his military background with academic expertise in educational sciences, focusing on antisemitism as an interdisciplinary subject. As a Master’s candidate in Educational Sciences at Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, he integrates sociological, historical, and educational perspectives into his research.
His work explores the reproduction of antisemitic narratives in educational and cultural spaces, the historical development of antisemitism in different societal contexts, and its implications for contemporary education. Jewish education, particularly in Germany and Israel, plays a significant role in his research, contributing to broader discussions on historical memory, identity formation, and interreligious learning. His bachelor’s dissertation, “Past Pillars and Present Progressions: Comparative and Historical Perspectives on Religious Education in Germany and Israel,” examined the historical continuities and transformations of religious education systems in both countries.
Beyond his studies, he serves as a military assistant at the Chair of Education with a focus on intercultural and comparative education research, contributing to projects on educational systems, cultural narratives, and the role of education in addressing historical and contemporary societal challenges. His academic work seeks to bridge historical inquiry with contemporary educational issues, emphasising the role of education in confronting antisemitism and fostering critical historical awareness.
