DigiMed – Digital value chains for medical technology based on additive manufacturing of patient-specific facial surgical implants
Duration: 01.10.2021- 31.12.2022
The joint research project “Digital value chains for medical technology based on the additive manufacturing of patient-specific facial surgical implants (DigiMed)” is a cooperation of Fraunhofer IAPT with the University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf, Clinic and Polyclinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (UKE) and the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces (HSU) and funded within the framework of the funding program REACT-EU (Recovery Assistance of Cohesion and the Territories of Europe) with a total of almost 1.5 million euros.
The aim of the project is to achieve a sustainable assurance of patient care with individually adapted implants. Here, a prototypical realization of an end-to-end digital value chain for patient-specific implants from facial surgery, which are AI-based and manufactured using additive manufacturing, is to be developed. The exclusive input should ideally consist of medical image data that is automatically processed into an output of the physical implant. For the first time, such a value chain will be developed and finally demonstrated.
