On the occasion of the 6th German Diversity Day at 5th June, 2018, the president of Helmut Schmidt University – University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg invited to a public event day with the motto “diversity in higher education”. Professors, (post)doctoral researchers as well as students of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences planned, coordinated and supported the whole-day and action-rich program. Beside members of Helmut Schmidt University and further Bundeswehr agencies in Hamburg such as the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (Führungsakademie) and the Bundeswehr hospital Hamburg, especially a broader interested public was heartily invited to the exchange on questions about diversity in higher education and in further organizations. The program included scientific talks, a panel discussion, workshops and exhibitions around the topics “examining disciplinary cultures through a diversity lens”, “confronting orientations that despise human rights” and “develop diversity sensitive practices”. The crowning final was a speech held by Marieke van den Brink, Radboud University Nijmegen, on „Gender Practices in Recruitment and Selection in Academia“.
