Executive Workshop on „Leading diversity, leading digitally“, Leadership@Helmholtz: kompakt 

On behalf of the Helmholtz Network, Prof. Dr. Barbara Sieben and Vanessa S. Bernauer conducted on September 1st, 2021 a “Leadership@Helmholtz: kompakt“-Workshop on the topic of “Leading diversity, leading digitally” with executives of the Helmholtz Association. The participants are leading diverse teams in research and administration departments of science organizations. In the workshop, we discussed gender, diversity and inclusion issues that arise on social, organizational and structural levels. The aim was to broaden gender and diversity competence in one own’s leadership, as regards how to enhance equality and inclusion as well as how to realize the innovation and creativity potentials of diversity. We reflected challenges and benefits of leading diverse teams particularly with a view on the conditions of virtual cooperation (incl. mobile work and home office). Next to giving insights into the theoretical and conceptual basis of a critical-reflexive perspective on managing diversity, we invited the participants in an interactive exchange to report and discuss personal experiences and impulses to act.
