Joint master’s programme in Eastern European Studies
In the run-up to the Eastern European expansion of the EU, the minor subject Eastern European Studies was introduced in the winter semester of 1997/1998. It is now a master’s degree programme. The programme is interdisciplinary and furnishes students with knowledge about the legal systems, economies, societies, geography, languages, culture, and history of Eastern Europe. The departments of Economics and Organisational Sciences, Education, and History at Helmut Schmidt University offer courses for students of Eastern European Studies. The University of Hamburg and Helmut Schmidt University as well as the Hamburger-Weltwirtschafts-Archiv (Hamburg World Economy Archive) and the Institut für Friedens- und Sicherheitspolitik (Institute for Peace and Security Policy) at the University of Hamburg are also involved in teaching. Students at Helmut Schmidt University can take courses at the University of Hamburg, the Hamburger-Weltwirtschafts-Archiv, and the Institut für Friedens- und Sicherheitspolitik.
