Dr. James Kennaway is a historian of medicine and Senior Research Fellow in the Surgery and Emotion project group at the University of Roehampton (London). He has previously worked at universities including Oxford, Stanford, Durham and Vienna. His work focuses primarily on the interaction of medicine and culture, for instance in his book Bad Vibrations: The History of the Idea of Music as a Cause of Disease. He is currently in the final stages of writing a book on ideas of race and fortitude in nineteenth-century military surgery.
