The professorship Automotive Engineering operates a wide range of experimental facilities to investigate the statical and dynamical behaviour of vehicles and their components. Beside the experimental capabilities, modelling and simulation play an crucial role in the investigation of vehicles. Areas of research interests are advanced vehicle dynamics including dynamical behaviour of tyres as well as high speed dynamics, e.g. occuring in crash safety. Furthermore, powertrains, convential as well as alternative ones, can be experimental investigated using a chassis dynamometer and an engine dynamometer. Research cooperation projects exists with the private (Volkswagen AG, Audi AG, BMW AG, Daimler AG etc.) and the public sector (e.g. BASt).
