A major focus on the development of efficient electrical grid structures of aircrafts is the design of the power supply of loads in the cabin. For this purpose, an innovative distribution module, so called Secondary Power Distribution Box (SPDB), has been developed in this project. The SPDB consists of modular built semiconductor switches (SSPC – Solid State Power Controller), which can be used to control different types of loads in the cabin. They have integrated smart metering and monitoring functions. Further on, the SSPC can be configured and controlled via CAN-Bus.
Main functions of the SPDB:
- Fast switching of DC-loads (up to ±270 V and 15 A) as well as AC-loads (up to 230 V and 15 A) with MOSFET switches
- Configuration, monitoring, and control via CAN-Bus
- Automatic fault detection and tripping:
- Excess current
- Short circuit
- Under-/overvoltage
- Arc fault detection
- Residual current
