Large-Scale Data Management

Responsible for the module

Prof. Dr. Maria Maleshkova

Qualification goal

Large-scale data management deals with the secure handling of large volumes of data. The vague term “large” is used to describe volumes of around 2 to the power of 64 bytes according to today’s standards of the term “big data”. Corpora of this dimension are predicted for the areas of search engines and global digitization efforts. Data volumes of this dimension must be securely conserved, transported, analyzed and processed. The module provides students with the skills to handle large amounts of data.

Inhalte

The subject-specific professional qualification and key skills are to be taught in the following areas in particular:

  • Fundamentals of the domain of big data
  • Methods of acquiring and maintaining large amounts of data
  • Secure storage, availability, error detection, error correction
  • Secure transmission
  • Complexity measures under the consideration of “large” numbers
  • Efficient analysis of large amounts of data (big data analysis)
  • Methods of AI in big data analysis
  • Parallelism in methods when handling large amounts of data
  • Control and optimization of logistical processes using extremely large amounts of data
  • Military use of big data analysis

Module components

The scope of the course is 2 TWS lecture, 1 TWS exercise for 6 CP.
