Building on the lecture Vehicle Drives I, students gain a deeper insight into vehicle technology’s various energy sources and storage systems. The focus is on a material-scientific consideration of conventional fuels and newer energy carriers and storage systems such as accumulators, hydrogen or synthetic fuels. In addition to technical aspects, the students are also familiar with the economic and ecological characteristics of the respective energy sources and storage systems and can put these concerning each other

  • Introduction (including physics-chemistry basics, energy and power requirements in vehicle technology, conditions, requirements and scenarios)
  • Conventional fuels (e.g. energy density, extraction, emissions)
  • Accumulators (e.g. structure and mode of operation, raw material requirements)
  • Hydrogen (including fuel cell technology and hydrogen storage)
  • Synthetic fuels (including feedstocks, and synthesis)
  • Combinations of drive systems and energy sources
  • Comparison (technical, ecological, economic)
