View & Find for Win-32 (Vista, XP …) using DOSBox 0.74 to launch the program.
N.B.: DOSBox is an emulator – it is slow. DOSEmu under Linux is more than 10 times
faster.
When in Win-32, open Command interpreter.
Use PKZIP, UNZIP or alike to unzip the win_v_32.zip archive.
Make sure, directory structure is preserved (if necessary, use -d parameter).
Make sure, all the files end up in C:viewfind. If necessary, copy files manually:
mkdir c:viewfind
xcopy c:tmpwhatever c:viewfind
Copy .lnk files to YOUR OWN Desktop directory (manually):
cd C:UsersMy_own_user_name (or whatever your username is)
c:
cd Desktop
xcopy c:viewfinddesktop*.*
Make sure, all your TLG, PHI 5, PHI 7 and whatever text files
are copied to separate directories under C:beta. If necessary, either copy
them appropriately or adjust c:viewfindprofile.v&f
If everything goes well, you are done and the View and Find Icons show up
on the screen.
Have fun, view and find Greek and Latin texts.
You will find a copy of the WIN32 betautf8.exe program enclosed which
is useful to convert V&F output to something meaningful to the OpenOffice
word processor and similar products.
In the doc sub directory, there is ample documentation. Read v&fdoc.pdf
first. If you run into problems, don’t ask me – ask your colleagues; they
can help you as little as I.
We recommend you use SPITRUN.EXE V&F.SPX under DOSBox, because this
VCPI version of the program runs in a more secure manner in DOSBox –
neither is DOSBox good at emulating a DPMI server, nor does it allow for
one to be loaded separately (CWSDPI.EXE).
Newer versions of DOSBox are happy if hdpm32.exe is loaded before the program:
hdpm32.exe
v&frun.exe /S
instead of the VCPI version („spitrun.exe v&f.spx /S“)
